Protocol Guidelines for Kama Attendees

PROTOCOL GUIDELINES FOR ATTENDEES

To ensure smooth functioning of the transmissions and facilities, all participants are kindly requested to respect the following protocol guidelines:

Kama ID Badge

  • Always keep your Kama ID Badge with you throughout the program and check the QR code on your badge regularly for important updates and announcements.
  • Do not give your Kama ID Badge to anyone else or switch with anyone else.
  • Do not lose your Kama ID Badge, it will be difficult to replace it.

Contact Information and Questions

  • Please direct any questions or concerns to the designated contact person for each area.
  • You will find the list of authorized contacts on the Kama ID Badge QR code under “Contacts” from the Kama Transmissions Information Page.
  • Asking questions to unauthorized individuals who do not have the official information leads to miscommunication.

Accommodation

  • If you have been allocated a room within the Monastery campus, please make sure it is only used by those to whom it has been given. Please do not change rooms without permission from Housing Liaison.
  • Please do not invite any guests or other attendees to visit or stay in your room. You are not allowed to bring extra mattresses and beds to accommodate any guests or other attendees.
  • Only those allocated rooms within the Monastery can stay within those rooms, based upon the housing assignments as designated by the Housing Liaison.
  • It is not allowed to cook in the rooms in the monastery compounds.
  • It is not allowed to bring heaters, electric burners or any such items into rooms within the Monastery compounds.
  • Please make sure to switch off all lights, ACs, heaters, and geysers before leaving your room.
  • Please help conserve electricity and water and use the resources responsibly.
  • It is not allowed for any lay persons to visit or enter the monks’ quarters or any rooms of the monastic sangha within the monastery premises. 
  • Everyone who is not staying within the Mindrolling monastery must respect the opening and closing times. Those not staying at the monastery campus must leave before the gate closes each day.

Gate opens at 4 AM.

Gate closes at 9:30 PM.

Shrine Room Protocol and Seating during Transmissions

  • Please respect the designated seating areas in the shrineroom.  Seating is assigned based on the color code of your Kama ID Badge.
  • Due to limited space in the stupa shrineroom, seating inside the shrineroom is only for those whose seats were assigned prior to the Transmissions. All others will be seated in the shine tent.
  • Please respect all shrine room protocols and minimize the number of things you bring to the shrineroom during the Transmissions to help keep the space uncluttered.
  • At the end of each day take all your personal belongings and do not leave them in the shrineroom. 
  • Please do not enter the shrine rooms outside of the times designated for the transmissions on the daily schedule. This will prevent disturbances to the shrine team.
  • Please do not request to be in the shrineroom during the breaks to do your personal practice.
  • Please bring your own cup for tea service in the shrine room. This will help minimize the waste by not using disposable cups. 

Meal Service and Dining

  • Meals will be provided for all participants. Everyone has a designated dining area, based on the color of your Kama ID Badge. Please do not try to change or go to a different dining area. This will help make meal service efficient and ensure that everyone is served on time.
  • Please do not leave used cups, glasses, plates, bowls, and cutlery lying around. Always bring them back to the designated place after using.
  • Please respect announcements and guidelines set by the monks in charge of dining spaces.
  • It is absolutely prohibited for anyone to go inside the kitchen area and other restricted areas where monks and staff work.

Preventive Health and Sanitary Measures

  • We encourage everyone to wear masks as much as possible for the first week, in order to prevent spread of any infections or diseases brought to the Monastery by people from outside.
  • If you have a cold, COVID, flu or other respiratory illness, we request you to avoid being in the shrineroom or other enclosed spaces. Please sit in the shrine tent, wear a mask and observe all sanitary rules carefully.

General Protocol Guidelines within the Monastery

  • Please refrain from entering any monastery rooms and buildings other than those designated for the transmissions, meals, and your accommodation without permission.
  • Smoking and consumption of alcohol or any other intoxicants is strictly prohibited within the Monastery premises.
  • Do not litter. Please use trash cans and help to keep the environment clean.
  • Lay participants must not use bathrooms that are designated as strictly for monastics only.
  • Please take care of your own belongings. Monastery and staff will not be responsible for any theft or loss.
  • Please be respectful of the presence of teachers and the ordained sangha.  Behavior and attire should always be appropriate and respectful within the monastic environment. Refrain from rude or harsh behavior and speech.
  • Please kindly respect all monastic and administrative staff. Monks, Nuns, Staff, the administration team, and the Kama Coordinators are not to be asked or expected to do any personal errands or work for those attending the transmissions. Please always be responsible for oneself.
  • The monastery and Kama coordinators do not take any responsibility if anyone violates the PAP regulation and gets into trouble with the Indian authorities.
  • Mindrolling monastery administration staff and Kama coordinators reserve the right to ask any individual to leave the premises in the event that anyone’s actions or speech disrupt the harmony of the sacred space.
